Opera versus Firefox
I've been an avid Firefox user for years now. I have never had any problems with the browser and I still don't.
The last time I tried Opera, it was still quite bloated and used entirely too much RAM to run. However, I'm enjoying Opera 9 and thought I would give it a fair shot. The built in "session save" feature is what I wanted in Firefox all along (without using plugins...I've found those to work less than ideally).
I'm just going through the initial setup and I've already found what may be a deal breaker. I do not see an option in Opera to clear all private data (Cookies, cache, history, authenticated sessions, etc.) on exit. I've already selected the option to clear the cache, but that doesn't help me all that much. Just as a test, I exited the browser with authenticated sessions still open. The next time I restart Opera and open the bookmarks, I get an error and am forced to log back in.
Does anyone know if this is possible?

JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,089 AdminAre you using Opera on Windows or the Mac? The only Opera (and Safari) people I've known are Mac users. Here's an article for the Mac version. Opera's Wikipedia page also indicates private data can be easily wiped.

undomiel Member Posts: 2,818I am an avid Opera user on the PC, absolutely love it and been with it for a few years now. Speed Dial is a great feature too! Anyhow to answer your question here is a way for clearing private data on shutdown: http://my.opera.com/dude09/blog/2008/02/22/delete-private-data
You can also clear private data from tools->delete private data.
As for bloat from Opera you can clamp down on its memory usage instead of setting it to automatic. I did that on a few low memory PCs and it helped boost performance a lot.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/ -
Megadeth4168 Member Posts: 2,157I have both installed on my PC but rarely use Opera. I guess I'm just used to Firefox. I have to say I'm liking the Beta for Firefox 3.

Mishra Member Posts: 2,468 ■■■■□□□□□□I installed Opera about 3 years ago when IE was the bringer of all things spyware and really had a problem trying to view most websites. Although most Linux guys argue "yeah well its not Opera's fault" it still doesn't work in the first place so I don't use it.
Has their website compatibility gotten better? I did enjoy the browser as it was really fast and responsive.
