Password recovery

What password recovery is good for windowns 2000. We have some old drives that are gonna be re used, but the data on them is still good, so we don't want to slick them unless its the last option. The password binder and admin passwords have been lost, so I'm hopeing someone can give us some ideas

Is the data encrypted? Can you just put the drives in another machine and pull the data off? -

the entire drive is password protected. Its a removable drive that goes into a PC that has the OS and all the data on it. So your only options are find the password. Crack it, or slick the drive.
