Hi Def from PC to TV
Hi
2 questions
What is the best connection type for this, my TV has a RGB socket so i am guessing DVI - RGB, or HD PCI card???
and
Is all i need to do is locate an AVI which claims to be HD and play through TV, this would of course be a lot larger in size than standard rip of a DVD

I go from DVI on my PC to HDMI on my HDTV with one of these: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10231&cs_id=1023102&p_id=2218&seq=1&format=2
You can get a bunch of free HD clips here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/musicandvideo/hdvideo/contentshowcase.aspx -

Luckycharms Member Posts: 267You can't get sound using DVI to HDMI - because DVI doesn't carry sound... HDMI natively carries sound... But since you said your tv doesn't have HDMI your out of luck on using that connector... But you can get HD over RGB.. Xbox does it..

JayrodEF Member Posts: 111 ■□□□□□□□□□Get a video card with DVI, use a DVI cable for video then just get a line out audio cable (goes from mini-jack to red and white RCA) and plug that into the audio inputs on the TV or a reciever. I've also had PCs hooked up to my TV via a VGA cable, dunno if your TV has one. Also, if it's an LCD TV, find out what the native resolution is and make sure you can set your PC's video card to that resolution for the best picture.

Luckycharms Member Posts: 267You used DVI and RGB ( audio only) at the same time??? I didn't think you could do that... I don't have any need to try it but still really cool that you got it to work...The quality of a book is never equated to the number of words it contains. -- And neither should be a man by the number of certifications or degree's he has earned.

I just use the mini-to-RCA cable (as JayrodEF mentioned) and connect it to my receiver. I probably just made all the audiophiles cringe in agony, and I apologize, but it's good enough for me.
