JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,090 AdminI wonder what Cisco's "virtualization component" is? Microsoft's Hyper-V runs in Server 2008, but they might have adapted it to run on WAAS as well. I'm wondering if the WAAS has an OS that runs Hyper-V or is Hyper-V the OS itself. It looks like the only thing virtualized is the server and storage.
Cisco to Put Windows Server 2008 on WAAS Appliances

larkspur Member Posts: 235The WAAS devices run a modified Linux kernel. So I would suspect that either VM has worked with Cisco or like you mentioned.
Becasue teh WAAS does file prepostioning this would help centralize and accelerate cifs shares not to mention the printer piece.
But to run a windows server as a dc, dhcp, dns, etc. on a router probably a 2821 to start is pretty cool. Imagine if web\applications or even small databases started setting on the router. This could be very good for some ERP companies or even organizations who have not invested in a "thin" architecture.
wow we could dream up some stuff with this one.....just trying to keep it all in perspective! -
JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,090 AdminAdding Windows Server 2008 will also cause the price of the WAAS appliance to jump, if only to pay for the Windows OS license.
