laptop Keyboard / touchpad

Hi All,

I've been looking at laptop with some issues.

Windows starts up etc and boots into the desktop.. but the keyboard and touchpad do not work at all. No caps lock lights / num lock lights when keys are pressed and no movement at all from any keys or touchpad.

Tried plugging in usb mouse but nothing happens and windows doesn't even budge or acknowledge it has been plugged in. Also during post, the keyboard shortcuts don't work, e.g to enter bios etc.. so it looks to be dead at system level, and not windows related.

I have took it to bits, and looked at the ribbon cable coming from the keypad and all looks ok.

Anyone came acrosss this at all, or does this look to be dead and buried ?

It's an advent laptop.
Do just once what others say you can't do, and you will never pay attention to their limitations again.

If you plug in a USB keyboard, can you get into the bios with that?

If you are unable to enter the bios during post and reseating the ribbon cable does not fix things then it seems more likely that your motherboard is having issues. You could try popping the cmos battery for a reset and see if that gets you any love, but most likely not. You could try a usb keyboard to see if that will be recognized either.
