    lmx,

The "Fundamentals of Wireless LANs" course at your local Cisco Networking Academy is equivalent to the CWLF course. You'd still need a way to learn the material for thw CWLAT course.

    lmx,

You have to understand that in order to prepare for the 642-587 AWLANFE exam, the following Cisco courses are recommended:
    1. Cisco Wireless LAN Fundamentals (CWLF)
    2. Cisco Wireless LAN Advanced Topics (CWLAT)

The Cisco Networking Academy course of "Fundamentals of Wireless LANs" is equivalent to the Cisco Wireless LAN Fundamentals course. The relevant textbooks for the "Fundamentals of Wireless LANs" course are as follows:
    1. Fundamentals of Wireless LANs Companion Guide (Cisco Networking Academy) - http://www.ciscopress.com/bookstore/product.asp?isbn=1587131196
    2. Fundamentals of Wireless LANs Lab Companion (Cisco Networking Academy) - http://www.ciscopress.com/bookstore/product.asp?isbn=1587131218

REMEMBER that the above books are ONLY for the equivalent to the "Cisco Wireless LAN Fundamentals (CWLF)" course and you will have to find either a Cisco Learning Partner or through Partner E-Learning Connection for the Cisco Wireless LAN Advanced Topics (CWLAT) course. Another problem is that using the Cisco Networking Academy books will assume you'll have the equipment to complete the labs. I was told by my instructor that a Cisco Aironet BR350 Wireless Bridge costs in the range of US$1000. So "self-studying" for this exam may be financially unfeasible. I have no idea how expensive the WCS and LWAPPs are for the CWLAT course. Also there may be some radio frequency laws and regulations for your country that you'd probably learn from a knowledgeable instructor in your country.

    I hope this helps.
