lost or confused ... maybe both

Alright so I've been looking on ebay for cisco gear for a few days now. I found a good deal that I let pass up because I wasn't thinking right. It was 2 2600 routers and 1 2500 router for free. The bid got up to 80 plus 33 for shipping and it came with cables. Then I looked at ciscokits and I should have smacked myself. So anyways I'm still looking and asking questions to the sellers about the gear. I'm looking at 26XX (100mb eth?) routers, pix 501 firewall, 29XX switch, and two 25XX routers. I took a look at the information here but I'm just confused to what I really need. Won't the 26XX routers do what the 25XX routers do in operations and better? I've used 25XX routers before in my cisco class that I took in highschool but didn't really know why we had them. Also does anyone have any tips for using ebay to look for cisco gear? This is my first time dealing with ebay. I plan on doing cisco at davenport university and I just want to get a jump on the material before I get there. I added ccnp because they have that option as a certification.

i found this quite daunting tooo people can end up paying alot for a home lab. I personally found alot of my equipment from ebay aswell.

I personally have 4 routers 2610 and two 2950 switches with ios 12.4. I find that this is more than enough to practice the required labs for the ccna exam.

This should be adequte for your ccna studies. i have 3 x 26xx and 1 x 37xx (used for frame relay) and 3 x 2950. i think the minimum people would recommend is 3 routers and 2 switches.


but if you are planning to do your ccnp it may be better to purchase equipment you could use for those aswell. it may cost you a little more but it would be worth it in the long run.


im not sure of exact details but other members will be able to tell you, or if you look in the ccnp forum there will be a ton of posts on lab kit.
