seek
Going to build a firewall box for testing port scans and such. Any free ones out there you guys recomend?
Just need something I can play around with to get some more hands on exp.

I would suggest putting together a Linux box. Play around with some IPTables. You can find really small distros like Peanut Linux or even bootable version like Knopix. The bootable versions are fun because you just boot with the cd and when you are tired of linux...reboot. They use a RAM drive so the original Operating System is not disturbed. You don't even need a hard drive to use them. Good luck and have fun.

Id get hold of an old machine and use it as a dedicated firewall/router. Then that gives you the opportunity to play around with some IPTables (as Zen suggested).
Also; have a look at smoothwall, which is an open source firewall distribution based on the Linux OS. Take a look at
