Boothelper image for MC3810

ccvp_wannabeccvp_wannabe Member Posts: 18 ■□□□□□□□□□
Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Just bought 4 MC3810's not too long ago and only 1 has boothelper image
mc3810-wboot-mz.bin.120-6r.T4 loaded and I can't boot any IOS larger than about 6 meg on the others. All have 16 meg of flash. I have been searching everywhere and still can't find this image. I also have a CCO account and could not find it there. Does anyone know where to locate this file or where I could get a copy?

This is a LAB setup and not production.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I think I may be wrong. I just read the doc again on Cisco and it looks like I only need
this image if I am running 32 meg of flash. I guess I am having a different problem. Will need
to look at why I can't load the larger image.

What's the boot rom versions, and how much memory do they they show on boot. Someone may have upgraded the memory to 64Meg without the boot roms (if they are MC3810s or MC3810-V). If that's the case, then I think it only shows as 32 Meg memory and with large images they will just reboot.

You're booting the RX-boot image in ROM.

    What's your configuration register value?
What image have you loaded onto flash?
What show up when you do a dir flash?

Why, Is the router freezing after it comes to the prompt Router(boot)#

I'm not really sure. It only happens when I boot this image.

This is what I get on Bootup:

I tried this upgrade on another router and got the same thing.
Is there anyone running an mc3810 with 12.3x or higher? If so what am I doing wrong?
I believe the routers meet the requirements.

Try a 12.2 MC3810 image. I think the last 12.3 images required 64 Megs of Memory.

Yeah 12.2 worked. Just found this:

The Cisco MC3810 is not supported in Cisco IOS Release 12.3(19) and later releases.

    From this doc:

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3/release/notes/123REQS.html

I just checked the cisco site gain and apparently all the 12.3 images as far as I could see only support 64MB. Not sure how I got it in my head that 32 was supported. I could have sworn I used the feature navigator but it was probably one of those late nights and my eyes got screwy.
Either way I just ordered 3 sticks of 64MB (One for each) and am planning on using 12.3(1icon_cool.gifa
    IP PLUS VOIP/ATM

    Thanks for the help!

Don't forget that the MC3810-V3 uses the same DRAM as the 1760s -- and the MC3810-V and MC3810 don't. Plus go back to check your Boot Rom Versions.

Check out CCVP FAQ icon_confused.gif: Hardware Documentation Links section for this -- Table 1.6 in the Overview of the Cisco MC3810 Series Document -- it has all the memory and upgrade information. It turns out there were even some 12.0 images that required 64 meg of memory (which meant they were for the V3s) icon_eek.gif

The part number for the MC3810 Boot Rom upgrade to support 64 meg is
    Boot ROM P/N: BOOT-381V=

Let me boot up an upgraded MC3810 and see what it reports as the Version on boot.....
IOS (tm) MC3810 Software (MC3810-A2JK9SV5-M), Version 12.3(18a), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 12.0(6r)T4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
ROM: MC3810 Software (MC3810-WBOOT-M), Version 11.3(1)MA1, MAINTENANCE INTERIM SOFTWARE

    Thanks Mike,

Thats the part where I am stuck because I have the supported boot rom on this router with
System Bootstrap, Version 12.0(6r)T4 and I meet the requirements but I still couldn't get it to
load. Just have to wait and see if the memory helps. I hjave a 1760 but I have the MC310 and and MC3810-V's

    Thanks for the help!

Got my memory today and tried to load the last supported 12.3.18a image and the router still fails to boot. I'm bummed.

You could just have a corrupt image. Do you have that image running on any other router so that you know you've got a good image? Try another late model 12.3 image if you have one.

Yeah I have tried multiple 12.3 images. I can only get 12.2 images to load but only voip/voatm images, not enterprise. I have been banging my head against a wall for almost 3 hours. Tried different routers too with no luck.
