BCMSN:Layer 2 switching

Hi,

I am just starting looking at bcmsn and Im reading the David Hucaby Cert guide. In the section on layer 2 switching it mentions that the TCAM contains security ACLS and QoS ACLs. So this means a pure layer 2 switch still has the capacity to make forwarding decisions based on layer 3+ information?

I know this is probably kind of obvious but I just wanted to confirm it!

I dont think so.. The ACLs and QoS they are talking about would be MAC based.

TCAM allows line-rate lookup speeds hence why it is good for QoS packet marking and ACL's.........

It makes ACL decisions based on L3 IP's for VTY access etc........

QoS marking would be L2 marking though unless you have a Multilayer switch........
