I have a Seagate STD2401LW tape drive unit that I would like to use in a server. It looks like it has a scsi connector and power connector on it. If I were to purchase a scsi card, will the unit work? what software is needed?

If you buy a SCSI card that matches the type of scsi of the tape drive, and you install the drivers, you can use Windows Backup.
I suggest searching the seagate site for the model and the type of scsi (narrow, wide, ultra...).
