Ok. i understand how this layered approach works. when talkin about switches, the Core is th e backbone on the network, and they connect the distrubution layer which distributes out to the access layer which connects to the users its self.

Well how you would this design work if connected a cisco layered switch approach to a Cisco layered router approach for isntace.

Take the following picture:

Would the core layers of the swiches connect to the access layers of the routers or the cores of the routers.

Or how would the layers of the routers connect with the layers of switch.
What would connect to what???

thanks

Not really sure what you are asking here...

The drawing is an ideal physical layer design that includes each of the 3 layers of a scalable network. Whether the core is layer 2 or layer 3 doesn't matter much for this drawing other than you would have different configurations on your devices.

what i am try to say is::

In a production network, would you connect the core layer 2 devices with the core layer 3 devices, or you the core layer 2 devices be connected to the access layer or the layer 3 devices.

    i am wondering that question>

but i am thinking that the core routers will be with the core switches, and the distribution routers with the distrubution switches, and the access routers to the corresponding access switch??

hopefully that clears up my answer

In most medium to large networks your core layer devices will NEVER connect to your access layer devices, whether or not the core device is a router or a switch.

The only time you will see a core device connected to an access layer device is in smaller networks where it would be a waste of money to add another layer (the distribution layer)
