Problems creating a vpn in XP
One of the laptops here at work for some reason whenever I go through the wizard for creating the vpn connection it always creates a dial-up connection instead with the address for the vpn in place of the phone number. Yes I did make sure I was creating a vpn connection and not a dial-up. I tried disabling the modem but still no go, and ripping the drivers out for the modem still does nothing good for it. I couldn't find too many ideas out in the google world for this problem so now I'm consulting you good people. Any suggestions? It figures that the one machine that has issues is my boss' machine of course.

Next
dot on Connect to the network at my workplace then next
dot on Virtual Private Network connection then next
Fill in company name then next
Fill in host name then next
dot in Anyone's use then next
Reports successfully created connection, click finish.
Check the Network Connections and tada there is a nice and shiny brand new dial-up connection and not a virtual private network connection.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/ -

dynamik Banned Posts: 12,312 ■■■■■■■■■□Sorry man. I looked around and couldn't find any information on it or a way to replicate it. You might want to try an SFC /scannow to check the system files. Otherwise, you could try a repair installation, which will (should) leave all the apps, etc. in tact. You should definitely back up before trying that though.

undomiel Member Posts: 2,818I'd probably just go for a fresh start because for some reason the computers around here just aren't too friendly to repair installs. Had two go south on me several months ago. I'm not too surprised at the issues around here because viruses had the run of the network when I was brought in. They aren't too keen on reinstalls around here though, so I make do with what I can. Thank for checking though dynamik!Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/
