DNS zones, nomenclature and concepts

Hi all,

is it correct to say that:
- Sales is the root zone domain for Zone 2.

And:

- The DNS database file for Zone 2, contains just mappings for hosts in the domains "Sales" and "Manag1"?

Notice You some strange or wrong in my scheme?

Thank You very much.

    For manag1.sales.microsoft.com.

    . is the Root Level Domain
    .com is the Top Level Domain
    Microsoft is the Second Level Domain
    Sales is the Subdomain
    manag1 is the Hostname

    As for what Zones contain what records it really depends on how DNS is setup.

    The Zones proberbly wont contain DNS Information for the root and Top level domain except for forwarding DNS traffic there for these zones.

    However for host, subdomain and second level domain it depends how its setup.

    No please, no hostnames are in my scheme;
    can You confirm what I said about Zone 2 (taken a very simple DNS setup).

    Thank You.
