astorrs Member Posts: 3,139 ■■■■■■□□□□Jose Barreto just posted an article describing different ways to implement Windows Server Failover Clustering with Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V.
The scenarios described include:
1 - Parent-based Failover Clustering with two physical servers
2 - Child-based Failover Clustering with two physical servers
3 - Mixed Physical/Virtual Failover Clustering
4 - Failover Clustering with two child partitions on one physical server
5 - Standalone demo laptop with Virtual iSCSI SAN
Check the details on each one (including a "before" and "after" diagram for each) at

undomiel Member Posts: 2,818Just took the test today. I wasn't feeling too good and kept almost nodding off during the test. So this'll probably be marked as my big fat F A I L E D. I'm guessing a 500 or 600. Make sure you know SCVMM and clustering. Other than that it is general common sense virtualization that anyone who has put together a decent lab whether it be under Virtualbox or it be under VMWare will be able to puzzle out. All in all I would say it isn't too difficult of an exam if you can get some hands on with the technology to get familiar with the interfaces and studying your 293 concepts.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/

Technowiz Member Posts: 211Took the exam today. Probably failed but who knows, maybe I got lucky! For those preparing to take it know SCVMM, host and vm clustering, different vm network types, different vm disk types, SCVMM, hardware/software requirements for hyper-v and scvmm, some of the command line for installing and configuring hyper-v on a core server... Oh and I almost forgot SCVMM!!!

Has information previously presented in failover clustering links, but it adds the steps one would take within the OS to implement it, as well as screenshots of the UI. -

Even if we don't all make it, TE members are going to have quite the advantage once this is out of beta. -

I am signed up for this afternoon, but not sure if I'll actually be able to make it. Sucks all the studying and not being able to take the test for free, but at least I learned something and it'll be that much less studying when the test actually comes out. Hopefully, I can make it, though. -

Ugh. Tell me about it. I just sat mine a few hours ago, and I was really hit hard on those. I put a lot of time into this, and I was getting SCVMM material I never came across. There was a lot of general 2008 topics, such as clustering, WDS, advanced boot options, and other stuff like SCOM. I think I did fairly well, probably because I *cough* *cough* actually installed the software and played around with it *cough* *cough*
It'll be a long wait. The report said 8 weeks, maybe longer. I wish they'd still give you some statistics, like the normal bars graphs or just how many you got wrong. I understand they have to evaluate things before they can issue a pass or fail, but it would be nice to have some idea of how you did. I might have squeaked by, but I don't know. I definitely had to make a lot of educated guesses along the way. -
darkerosxx Banned Posts: 1,343There was lots of material not specifically mentioned in the exam topics. My guess is they threw stuff in there that they can remove when everybody bombs those areas, so some areas just had to be hard. I'll reserve judgement until I see my grade, but many of the questions were poorly worded in my opinion, such as several questions asking about what type of network to use to connect to "other computers on the network." They failed to specify which network they wanted to connect to.
For future reference, know network types, disk types, what OS's require what service packs to interact, SCVMM, and Failover Clustering and you win. -

Eh? You got something to say, punk?
I installed Server 2008! So I was partially there, right?darkerosxx wrote:For future reference, know network types, disk types, what OS's require what service packs to interact, SCVMM, and Failover Clustering and you win.
I'll second and third this one. SCVMM seemed to be the hardest hitting topic to me though.
Can't wait to see those scores though! Do they let you know a bar graph break down so you know what areas you need to improve? Well, aside from ALL, I know that one already.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/ -
astorrs Member Posts: 3,139 ■■■■■■□□□□I decided to spend this morning cramming as much more information as I could into my head about this (work kept me from getting what I felt was sufficient time to really play - Hyper V on its own was my only hands-on, but I do have some SCVMM experience from the beta on that long ago) and I understand virtualization (and have about 4 years experience with VS2005 - I was running it in production - well development - when it was going to be called VS2004 so the Microsoft terminology was familiar).
Of course I get so busy reading stuff this morning I don't realize that I should have left for my exam about 35 minutes ago... crap. Grab my keys and race down to the car. Turn on the car and it yells at me that I have a flat tire on the front drivers side... thank god for BMW run-flat tires.
Got to the testing center almost an hour late but they let me sit it anyway (some testing centers are jerks about that I've found). As for the exam, I will echo what everyone else said about the content. They should rename the exam "TS: SCVMM with a little bit of Windows Virtualization, Configuring".
75 or something questions. I felt 100% sure about 30 of them. 10-15 of them were more like 75%, a few more 50/50 and about 20 were educated guesses (or maybe hail mary's). I'm thinking (hoping) I passed but we'll have to wait and see (8+ weeks, now that's just mean).
Half the time when I finish an exam I am shocked as to the results - I suck at guessing how well I did (70-291 is a great example, I thought I got somewhere in the high 700's - you don't want to know what I got - others I think I did way better than I actually did).
Well back to reviewing 294/297 content so I can wrap up my MCSE and move onto a couple of EMC exams before my (self imposed) deadline is up.
A big thanks to everyone (especially dynamik) who contributed URLs, notes and thoughts on the exam to this and the other threads. -
RobertKaucher Member Posts: 4,299 ■■■■■■■■■■Arrived at the center early and sat down, entered my test code and the same box came up. I sat for 1 1/2 hours before I finally left. Called prometric, they offered me nothing. Told me to call MS. Some one is going to compensate me for the hours of study and 2 hours of personal time I took.

dynamik Banned Posts: 12,312 ■■■■■■■■■□Sorry to hear about that. I was hoping no one would get stuck on the last day like that. Did you see this thread? I'm really curious how you guys are going to get compensated. These types of things just shouldn't happen.

Could be a lot longer.... I took the 71-625 in February, the beta was extended to March 31st but Results are not expected until July. -
astorrs Member Posts: 3,139 ■■■■■■□□□□I think I should have gotten my results by now, what should I do? A good rule of thumb is to expect a score by the time the live version of the exam becomes publicly available; this may be 16 to 20 weeks after taking the exam, due to the comprehensive process involved in evaluating beta exam results.

This made me depressed, and when I get depressed, I google. I googled this, which made me slightly less depressed.

Hey, I took my 71-625 in February... The Beta Period ended March 31st and we didn't start getting results until last week. So I think Waiting until August 25th is fair enough for this one:)
I with the last couple posters here... I don't think I passed, but I do think that I probably was in the 600's range somewhere. Guess, we'll wait and see. -

We have tried to say over and over again that the betas don't adhere to a perfect schedule, because they are betas, and sometimes things get slowed down or mucked up or otherwise wonky, in the process of creating somethign new. Your scores are being finalized and transferred and that's where we are. Thanks again for your humor and understanding; the beta process is what it is and we hope the benefits of participating outweigh the hassles for you, over time.
