But from my desktop i can't ping the virtual machine

Does your VM have a firewall blocking ICMP?

    hi

= on my virtual machine , there is only winxp without any firewal
= on my desktop i've a the Dlink firewal activated > bitdefender autorise vmware to work on the port 912

Try disabling Bitdefender's firewall temporarily and see if that helps, I had the same thing here. If it works open the Bitdefender console/Firewall section/Traffic + Edit Profile to get a more advanced view. Look for anything that is denied and if you don't recognize it remove the rule. BF is pretty good but it can keep duplicates of rules where one is a deny and the other allow for the same app. on the same port, if your deny is higher in the list it will block the host/service even though the simplified traffic view shows it should be allowed.

Can your desktop communicate with the VM's guest OS using something other than ping? Check if you can see the guest OS in your desktop's My Network Places, and if it can be remotely managed from Computer Management.

    hello guys

well i'm so sad , i've tryed all solutions but it seems that there is a problem between "bitdefender total security 2008 " et vmware "6.04".

so what are yours suggestions ?

Did you try Ahriakin's suggestion of disabling the Bitdefender firewall completely and verifying if it works or not? If so what was the result?

    hello

All what you've tells me to do , i've do it .
From my vm pinging the gateway > ok
from my vm pinging the hp machine > ok

from my reel machine pinging the vm machine > ko
from my firewall " bit defender " i've autorised evry thing
from the Dlink routers i've autorized any thing about Lan

i've downloaded the manuel of bitdefender , and i'm reading firewall options.
i'll try the solutions , if it's work i'll tell you

Why don't you just disable it entirely (as previously suggested) and test it quick?

That way you'll know if it's a firewall issue or something else. If it is the firewall, then you can spend a lot of time adjusting the settings/rules.

    So ok dynamik

the question is how to disable the bitdefender firewal ?
  • AhriakinAhriakin Member Posts: 1,799 ■■■■■■■■□□
Maystro, no offense but if you don't know how to disable your own firewall(or how to find/rtfm/google for it, also presuming you have the most recent version of their Internet security suite I already told you how) then you need a few more basics before even getting into VMs. Not saying that to be an ass, just you will run into a lot more problems without covering some basics first.

so you want to connect vmware machine to internet ?
    the solution desinstall bitdefender

You might want to consider moving to another package. I switched last week to Kaspersky as the Bitdefender firewall was just too flakey and have had no issues since. Bitdefender has a great AV engine but everything else in the Internet Security 2008 package is a wee bit Beta.
