Hi,

My company is going to start moving from Frame-Relay to Verizon PIP Network. My question is what type of network is PIP. Is this a Verizon terminology or not? Thanks guys

Its Verizons Private IP network. It uses MPLS. Verizon Business is the line of business in charge of MCIs network after the merger

If it's like Sprints PIP Network -- it's private and doesn't connect to the Global Internet -- so it's marketing pitch is security for Government Agencies, Financial Institutions, and any company that wants increased security.

I think Sprint also markets the IPv6 aspect of their network to further target the Government market -- since the gov has a deadline to be running IPv6.

It basically sounds like another IP VPN offering running on an a private MPLS network.

Oh -- and while your encrypted data between your locations never mixes with the rest of the workld's pron surfing and p2p traffic, you can still get Internet access from your carrier. icon_confused.gif

But your data -- while secure traveling over their backbone -- is still only as secure as your local LAN and servers and hosts.

they ( verizon) use rfc 2547bis.

Thier layer 3 techs are really good and pretty up on bgp but also make sure no routes get leaked.
