12.3 IOS on a 2501 router
motherwolf
Hey everyone,
I have a 2501, which I hopefully will be upgrading soon to 16/16, and it's running 12.1 or 12.0. I have some 2610's running 12.3(24) and was wondering if I can just copy the IOS via tftp to the 2501? Will it function properly on 16/16? Thanks for any replies.

No, the IOS version also has to match the hardware.
IOS images for the 2600 series usually start with C2600. IOS images for the 2500 series routers start with C2500. If a router has a specific IOS version like the 2691, then the Image name will be specific and start with C2691.

It might be a good idea to configure your router to load the IOS from the TFTP server to see if it works first before loading it onto the flash. If the wrong IOS gets installed, you're in for a world of hurt!!!
