Frame relay - first stumbling block
jordmaz82
Hi all,
I am a complete newbie to Cisco and CCNA. I work as a network administrator so I have a decent base knowledge of networking concepts but I am struggling massively with the actual configuration of routers in a frame relay.
I understand that i need to set the encapsulation, interface and lmi type for each router as well as the dlci numbers for the PVC to the destination router but I can not get a functioning network i.e. I can not get one of the routers to successfully ping another router on the opposite side of the cloud.
I think I have fallen into the trap of a lot of newcomers into the cisco/world in that the theory is easier to digest than the actual practicality: I understand what is supposed to be happening but I just cant get it to happen!!!
I would greatly appreciate any help - not necessarily an answer as I really want to solve this little problem by myself but pointers in the right direction would be fabulous.
Aside from this stumbling block I am really enjoying my studies so far.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks
PS this is not a physical lab but simulated on Packet Tracer.

Post your config.
Are you using inverse arp or are you statically mapping the dlci's?
lildeezul
do you have a frame-relay switch in between...
so the config of the two DTE's and the Frame-relay switch

I now realise the error of my ways!!! No wonder there is nothing happening....I have not configured inverse arp.
I do have the frame relay switch between the DTEs but I have not enabled inverse arp - hopefully this will work.
I'll be back
Thank you very much

Hi guys - I actually removed the frame relay switch between the dce and dte and issued the "no keepalive" command on serial interfaces of all routers and this has allowed connectivity.
I wonder if you could shed some light on the pros/cons of this method i.e. would the implementation of frame-relay switch have been a more suitable path.
Thanks for your help
P.S. This is the first time I have posted in a CCNA forum so thanks for making me feel welcome with the swift responses - much appreciated
