Ok, so I have had a little more free time at my new job than expected and I generally dont use study material, I have always used my life experiences and the technotes here.
As some of you may know I have passed my 70-270 and 20-290 this month and I really want to kill 70-291 in the same month and get my MCSA out of the way.
Since there isnt any technotes for this test what should I be studying in depth in DNS?
I am familiar with Primary Zones, Secondary Zones, Stub Zones etc.
I defiantly need work on Integrated Zones so I will look for some websites to study exactly how they work and what they do before taking this exam. Also, is subnetting big on this exam?

dynamik Banned Posts: 12,312 ■■■■■■■■■□DNS is probably the most important item in this exam. Know it thoroughly. You need to know how to subnet as well.
Be sure to check out the exam objectives: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exams/70-291.mspx -
undomiel Member Posts: 2,818DHCP is another big topic and you'll also hit a good bit of RRAS. Don't forget to look at royal's sticky notes!Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/

TechJunky Member Posts: 881Thanks.
Man, that learntosubnet.com rocks.
I had an awesome word document a long time ago that broke down every Subnet Class in binary and I basically bolded the Network ID and didn't bold the host id's and it made it very easy to see how many subnet id's were in a particular class etc, but I cant seem to find it. This site has close to the same thing and great explanations. Exactly what I needed to brush back up with my binary.
Great resource! -

DNS
DHCP
RRAS
IPSec
WSUS
Proberbly in that order....
The best material you can see thou is Royal's sticky its VERY useful.Foolproof systems don't take into account the ingenuity of fools -

You probably will never use it in the real word, but you have to know it for the Micro$oft advertising campaign, um, er, i mean 70-291In Progress 70-431 -

I disagree wholeheartly. You do not have to know it.

I'm joking of course, you should study it.
DNS and DHCP are probably 1/2 of the test, so know them inside and out. Good luck!WIP: CCENT/CCNA (.....probably) -

I stand corrected, you have to know RRAS, UNLESS your name is NetAdminIn Progress 70-431 -
royal Member Posts: 3,352 ■■■■□□□□□□Spend as little time on RRAS as possible. You don't really need to know it for the real world since nobody uses it. Well.... almost nobody. Concentrate more on DNS/DHCP and knowing it very well since it's used by everybody who has a network.“For success, attitude is equally as important as ability.” - Harry F. Banks

Really? I never ran into any real WINS stuff in any of my tests except for a mention here or there that a WINS server existed and was needed for compatibility with a legacy application on the network, if even that much was mentioned. I guess I got lucky! I skipped all of the WINS sections in any of the books I was looking at.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/ -

That made my day. -
undomiel Member Posts: 2,818I use RAS here for the vpn since management would never give me a budget for anything. It was really easy to set up as well. I'm considering migrating to OpenVPN though. It would be good experience.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/

TechJunky Member Posts: 881Ok, so with the president of my company being in town and having meetings to attend I wasn't able to take time off work to take my exam.
So I will try and shoot for monday and get this last exam out of the way. I have been brushing up on my DNS, so hopefully nothing from work comes up and on Monday I will hopefully have my MCSA. -

TechJunky Member Posts: 881Ugh. So my father in law really messed up his back this weekend.
Long story short, he lives on a big hill, about 60 stairs to get to his house... So he is staying at my place for atleast a week until he gets to feeling better. So as you can guess I didn't have time to study this weekend so I am postponing once again.
I really want to make time for this test. I may just have to stay at work late a couple nights and bang out some studying so I can take it this week.
