basic questions

Hello All,
I have CCNA, Security+. Looking for a full time job, I come across questions which are very basic like DNS requires TCP and UDP ? or http handshake process. or basic security questions. I know the basic functions but am not sure with the actual process.
Can anyone guide me which book might help me to understand the working of DHCP , SNMP, SMTP and basic security which includes different attacks like buffer overflow, XSS...etc

Just read the RCFs if you're looking to understand how standard protocols work.
Didn't your Security+ material cover various attacks, etc.? I'd just google those if you need to brush-up. There's a ton of resources online.
