in CCNA & CCENT
Well, I took my second shot at CCENT today and failed with a 766. I am really stressed out being that is was my second attempt at the exam. During the exam the sharpy marker that the testing center provided did not write so I had to get up during the exam and request another one (clock of course was still ticking). Then during the next few questions the other marker crapped out.MY break down is as follows:
Describe the operation of data networks 90%
Implement small switch network 50%
Implement an ip addressing scheme 55%
Impletment a small routed network 60%
Explain and select appropriat administrative tasks required for a WLAN 33%
Identify security threats in a network and descripe methods to metigate 100%
Implement and verify WAN links 100%
Any help greatly appreciated it.
Damn! really feeling it.

Plazma Member Posts: 503I would say follow what your score guide said:Implement small switch network 50%

Looks like you really need to brush up on your subnetting/supernetting(summarization) as well as some basic routing and switching. Also it appears you did great on your WAN, but the theory got you caught up.. read more about frame-relay and implement it more.. one good way to get good at frame/NBMA is to setup a router as a frame switch.. its not difficult in fact Techexams has a guide for it somewhere.
Definatly hit VLSM and stuff and know it to the point you can subnet Class A/B networks in your head without much or no hesitation .. same goes with Summarization. When you get to the CCNP or higher level, VLSM and Summarization are 2 key concepts that you are expected to know. ( I know you maybe thinking it's easy, but be sure you can hit it from all angles)
WAN stuff was the hardest for me.. but now I use it a lot in my NP studies so its cake. I am a huge fan of the CBT nuggets series, watch them on some of the weak areas and then go back and nail it.. 766 is a good score.. don't let it discourage you!
Also on the switching part, make sure you understand the STP/RSTP states and how/what switches do with frames.. and vlans and all that.CCIE - COMPLETED! -
ggcivicsi Member Posts: 29 ■□□□□□□□□□Damn bud sorry to hear about the fail. But one thing don't let it bother you too much. Just make sure you go back and cover the so called weak areas and go back there and hit it again.
I'm sure the next time you'll do much better. And yes the CBT nuggets are great. I'm going through them right now for my CCENT also. Testing this Thursday so goodluck to me.
Better luck next time bud. I'm sure you'll do just find. Next time before you test make sure everything works ie marker and such. -
mikej412 Member Posts: 10,086 ■■■■■■■■■■How much hands on practice did you do for your attempts? Did you use a simulator or real hardware? Which book(s) did you use?
You may have to do some more reading. Or maybe the Train Signal or CBT Nuggets CBTs could help if you're a "video person."
But if it was lack of hands on practice or knowledge, then this is where someone would usually suggest the Chris Bryant Advantage. I think he has a package that includes some rack time.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -
Victorious Member Posts: 77 ■■□□□□□□□□Thanks for all the replies and input guys....very much appreciated! I used the following to study:
CBTNuggets ICND1 (saw it twice)
Odem ICND 1 (Read it once)
Todd Lamelle (didn't get to read it)
and I practiced with Packet Tracer every now and again.
So, what do you think Mike? Should I go for some rack time or what?Victorious -
TMM3 Member Posts: 39 ■■□□□□□□□□rack time for ccent, I dont think it is needed. If I remember there was not many sim's on that exam. I found that you should be just fine with cbt and cisco press book. I would take advantage of the cisco second chance offer and take it again.

Plus the ICND1 exam topics are your foundation for the INCD2 topics, so people who skimp on their rack time for the ICND1 exam might still pass -- but they pay for it when that get blown out of the water by the ICND2 exam.
And definitely read Todd's Sybex book ICND1 relevant chapters between now and your retest.
Good Luck!ggcivicsi wrote:I too will be testing Thursday.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -

I was just about to recommend this! Do a few of these daily and you'll get so good that you'll start doing them in your head without needing a pen and paper. -

The CCENT is a 1000 point exam. 804 for the mix of questions you had on your exam was a passing score.
I passed with an 896 out 805, or it might have been 804. -
Tech109 Member Posts: 78 ■■□□□□□□□□When you guys are mentioning the CBT Nuggets, are you referring to "Cisco CCNA/CCENT - Exam-Pack 640-822: ICND1"?
Is buying it directly from http://www.cbtnuggets.com the only way to get it, or do people sell used copies?
Thanks.
