Home Lab: Switch Module vs Catalyst

Hi all, I have 2520 and 3640 routers so far in my lab. I'm going to buy another router and some switches soon.

Here's the question: if I buy one less Catalyst switch and put an NM-ESW-16 switch module on a router (12.4 IOS), will the switch module offer similar features as in a Catalyst? Will the switch module work like a stand-alone switch?

It will have similar features, but will not have all the functionality of a stand alone switch. If you don't have any other resources it will help, but it would be best to get an actual switch.
