I am basically a novice at this Cisco world when compared to some of you guys.
I purchased an as-is 2948-L3 switch a few months ago that would not power up. Got it for $5 or so. I replaced the Power Supply--the old one looked like a lightning strike had claimed it.
It offers dot1Q, isl, sde and tr-isl interface encapsulation. The ip router command offers 12 different choices, including rip, ospf, isis, and iegrp.
This seems like a device that came out at a "failover" period in new device models.
When I look at all of the setup opportunities it works like a charm. This thing acts like a 48-port FE router--is that a good description? I assume if I plug some devices in, it will just start switching. I haven"t hooked anything up to it yet. I'm still waiting to be sure the power supply is heavy enough to stay with me.
Anyone have any experience with this model?
