Have you called an employer after you've put in a resume?

Hey there is a REALLY good internship I'm looking to get into and the employer put it up on Monday which I applied on Monday. I haven't got a response yet and it says on the job description online "Job Open 8/25-09/08"...

I'm thinking about just calling the HR department tomorrow but I really do not know what to say other then "Hi my name is... I'm calling in regards to my application for the internship... PLEASE GIVE ME THE POSITION" icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

But seriously has anyone called an employer after putting in an application? And what did you say if you did?

Just say you submitted a resume and you'd like to follow up. Yes, it's a common practice. In fact, it looks good. Some people just mindlessly fire of resume's to everyone. Following up makes you look like a more serious candidate.

Other alternatives, call the employer before you put in the application and see if you can get a word with the hiring manager. Walk in and hand deliver your application and see if you can see the hiring manager at the same time.

I did this when I was desperate for work and trying to get a job at Fry's fixing computers. I ended up getting that crappy job. When my contract was ending at a state university I was trying to find another job on campus and submitted a resume for a desktop support job that sounded fun. I waited a long time for a response and I knew the job was still open. I ended up calling and leaving a message for HR and the IT manager. The following day I got an email telling me I wasn't qualified for the job.

damn, where the hell ya'll live that you can walk in a give your resume anymore? I know of no companies, at least not where i live, that will let you do that. But definitely, one should call and follow up.

Never hurts to follow up and as said it looks like you are interested and not just shooting off your resume to everyone.

Did you whine this much on the application? I'm just kidding ;)

Remember, it's a holiday weekend. They probably left early on Friday and are playing catch-up today. Give them another call in a day or two if you don't get a hold of them, and try to talk to an actual person.

I do whine that much... I go "Pleeeeeeeaaasssseeeeee open the damn door for me!" icon_lol.gif

I know it's a holiday weekend I just thought they would have called by now...
Or maybe they are just giving people more time to submit applications because it is an internship...
