And it is for a Cisco job for once! From what I have heard from the recruiter they are looking for someone to mold into a Sr. Network Engineer. He said they specifically were looking for someone without years of networking experience and is a fast learner so they could teach them the way they wanted it done and that they were impressed that I had my CCNP.
This is exactly the kind of job I have been looking for and I will be spending most of the day reading about the company and reviewing some of the CCNP stuff so I do not get blind sided by anything. Things are finally looking up

I'm glad you found something promising. Just remember to practice interview skills while you are brushing up on technical knowledge. Good luck!An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -

scheistermeister Member Posts: 748 ■□□□□□□□□□Well, I had the interview today. The guy I interviewed with was the owner of the company. Very small place. I only saw the owner and one other guy that was a tech, no receptionist or anything like that. If it was more than those two I would say that there were maybe 5 people max. That is just the feeling I got from it.
The interview itself did not go at all like I had expected. I was told by the recruiter that the owner was a very technical person so I should be ready for tech questions; he also said be ready for security questions since that is mainly what the company focuses on... Not one technical question at all. No security type questions at all except, "What is your experience with security?" What he did focus on what my programming background. He asked about PHP and Lotus quite a bit. Nothing technical though.
Honestly he didn't give me a lot of feedback throughout the interview. He hardly said a word. Just didn't seem like a talkative guy. The interview just consisted of him asking me simple questions like, "What is your experience with this?" And me talking. Went on like that for an hour with him only asking maybe 10 questions. The only time he really smiled or chuckled is when he asked me about linux and I was talking about my experience with it. He said right after I was done talking, "it sparked a twinkle in your eye." Which he seemed to get a kick out of.
At the very end he said that they were going to continue to interview people and weren't planning on hiring someone for 30-60 days
Honestly I have never heard a date like that before. If you don't think I am what you want I would think you would just say so, but I wasn't going to argue.
Edit: On a side note when I walked out of the interview I had a voice mail for another short term contract installing routers and switches at a college. I guess at least it is good that these short term ones are starting to roll in more frequently.Give a man fire and he'll be warm for a day. What the heck?
I know a lot of larger companies really drag their feet on some things, I interviewed for a position once 2 months went by and I took another job 2 days after that I got a call for a second interview. So it's not unheard of but for a small company it does seem kinda strange, I'd keep looking in the mean time though! -

Longest I have gone between interviews from the same company has been 3 weeks. I had the first interview in person then 3 weeks later I had 3 more phone interviews with them and ended up getting the position.
But 1-2 months a head of when you are going to hire? Jeebus! Maybe I have just gotten used to the small contracts that give you a weeks notice if you are lucky. I have had some contracts come through that were for the next freaking day. Talk about last minute!Give a man fire and he'll be warm for a day. zen master Member Posts: 222That's pretty silly if you ask me. Chances are, if the person sent your company an application, they probably sent one to quite a few others, and if the person your interviewing is a promising candidate, they may be offered a position in the time you spend dragging your feet and hemming and hawing.
That aside, it sounds like a great opportunity, so, it's good that you got the short term thing there to fill the time. I would've asked to get some feedback during the 30-60 days, because that really is a ridiculously long time to spend waiting on a phone call that may or may not come. -

Just ask Aldur
LOL, I was just waiting for my name to come up when I was reading this thread. From my experience it is not terrible uncommon for things like this to take FOREVER! Like my experience with qwest. Granted my possible position with qwest is a management position and will pay some serious cash if it pans out but the interviews/HR stuff has taken over 5 months now.
Currently I am waiting for their HR to approve an offer and so we'll see how it goes. The good side of this is that if it takes 2 months longer then I'll have my BS and possible my JNCIE. The bad side of this is that its gonna suck hard to move to MN in the winter time!
Still all the waiting is frustrating."Bribe is such an ugly word. I prefer extortion. The X makes it sound cool."

ya i check in about every 2 weeks or so to see how things are going. At first I was very impatient but now I just view it as if things don't work out then I'll just get my JNCIE and ask for more next time"Bribe is such an ugly word. I prefer extortion. The X makes it sound cool."
