It looks like a standard entry level desktop support job, like I had not too long ago. Scary how closely the decription was to my old one, and I started at $14/hr. Fortunately through hard work and getting in good with the right people, I was promoted up to an admin job and am making 50% more than I did this time last year.Techexams.net - Job security for one more day.

sliptmickey Member Posts: 32 ■■□□□□□□□□Depending on how close to the Norfolk area Rosslyn is, I would say $20/hr. That's based on the fact that the Norfolk area is a US Navy fleet concentration area which means COL/Housing is probably going to be high. Sounds like a help desk job.

As its in Virginia (loads of Gov work), and requires a security clearance, I'd say $2-$3 more than that.Certified Lunatic. -
the_erickee Member Posts: 74 ■■□□□□□□□□Since they are wanting 6 years experience and an MCSE, I would say $25-30/hr. Since it is pretty much a helpdesk position.Erick Marshall - @erickbm

cbigbrick Member Posts: 284Rosslyn is in Arlington County, Virginia. You are basically in the Washington, DC area. Based on that position, I would not say more that 50k\yr. Take in consideration that the DC area is very expensive to live in. The position would defiantly look great on any resume for someone starting out and seems to have a lot of opportunity. Security clearance is the golden key. If you get one, keep your nose clean and you can only go up from there. Take a look at craigslist for prices on rent. Traffic sucks but if you can get near metro, it’s not too bad. Lots to do in the nations capital and most museums are free!! So is the ZOO!! If you are a history buff, most of the Civil War took place within a 3 hour radius on DC.
Any questions, just let me know. And in conclusion your point was.....???

Tech109 Member Posts: 78 ■■□□□□□□□□i could see it being in the $15 - $20 per hour range. I know of similar jobs in San Diego (Navy, NMCI) that would pay about $17 to start, and San Diego is quite expensive.
Wonder how they came up with the '6 years' experience (why not 5 years?). -
TechJunky Member Posts: 881I was just curious on everyone's take. I currently work for this company as a System Administrator and I have a feeling these helpdesk guys are getting paid pretty decently. Considering Security Clearance, MCSE, and 6 years experience... IMO with those type of credentials I would be looking for a System Admin Position... So I was just curious on everyone's take.
I was assuming 50k or so.
Most admins make 100k+ in the D.C Area. -

Admin at 100+k /yr?? Depends on the position. Don't make that a general statement. Private companies pay less for their admins than Govt contract jobs. I made 53k/yr as a Network admin at a private company overseeing everything. I had worked my way up from technical support (desktop) over a period of 4 years. My next job was as a Jr. Engineer at 70k/yr and after that was a Mid-level Microsoft Engineer at 85k/yr. I'm really at the point were I do not discuss my salary anymore. It just really depend on the company and the type of position. And in conclusion your point was.....???

Most admins in my company make that or more, and some close to 100k. Use careerbuilder.com in the D.C Area and look for positions such as System Administrator or System Administrator III. Most of these make atleast 80k. Again, this is due to the high cost of living in the D.C Area.
To make things understandable. My friend who is a first year intern at a law firm makes 160k.
Most admins within my company have a minimum of 10-20years in the trade. It all depends on the projects that you work on and the amount of expertise you have. However, most admins dealing with ESX/SAN/Enterprise Server Architecture and design are worth thier money.
Obviously if you think you are going to make 100k straight out of college you are sadly mistaken.
Sorry if this came off as anyone could make 100k. I was simply stating that if you have good experience/skills and have been an Admin for a while you can land close to a 100k job in the D.C Area.
I make much less than that, but again its due to location. My cost of living is a whole lot less where I am. On that same note I would need to make atleast 90k to move to D.C due to the cost of living if I was comparing it to my current salary.

Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread!! -
