yeah, i'll try. first i need to try to get myself in with NJVC. I know guys who have started there with only basic level certs, N+, S+ making $85K per year. And I know others with a little more experience and Working towards their CCNP that are making $100K plus. this is "working towards CCNP", not having CCNP. The catch is you have to have a Top Secret Clearance and be SCI eligible. Having a security clearance really holds a lot of value, despite what others may say and this is proof icon_cool.gif

I've got a current SCI, so I hope things go well when I get out, and clearances live up to the hype.

I know a contractor who was banking $150k/yr with a CCNA. Not too long after he got his CCNP, and is now a lead engineer for General Dynamics. Secret clearance. Not too shabby!!

Not using my clearance either. I don't have any desire to either. I want to stay as far away from the military and government as possible.

I got plenty of great offers from GD and other contracting companies when I got out but that line of work just isn't for me.

Having a TS is definitely a great thing. It definitely gives you job security!

Almost got a job at the Socom place in Tampa,Florida but then backed out due to the commute icon_sad.gif

I am 23. Got a DUI when I was 21 and had a disorderly conduct and menacing charge when I was in high school. Will this disqualify me from obtaining a security clearance? Will it help if I get the disorderly conduct and menacing expunged or can they see expunged offenses when they go through the process?

With the DUI's on your record it can be a challenge, but if you own up to it from the jump there is hope. Your only problem will be that most people won't vouch for you if they have to pay for it. Your best bet for one is to join the military to get one. The best part is your already 24 months past it. Once your 36 months out from it you have some hope. Of my sailors got 2 and was allowed to keep his. We had to do some major a55 kissing just to keep him in, but it all worked out.

I can actually answer this one. I have done two Security Clearance Adjudicator courses. Adjudicators make the final clearance determinations after the background investigation is complete.

Anyway, the answer is not black and white. You could still get a clearance. It depends on the government agency you're working for/with. Obviously, with a DUI you would probably have trouble with any cleared position involving driving. Agencies set their own tolerance policies. The biggies (White House/CIA/FBI) tend to be more strict and the smaller federal and state agencies tend to be more tolerant. This is just a generalization.

The things that help you with these things are: 1) time, the more that has passed since the incident, the better you are. 2) rehabilitation, proving that you have gotten help or addressed the problem, especially if it was court ordered. 3) be honest on your forms, if they find out that you purposely falsified the forms, it is usually a 3-year bar from any clearance considerations.
