Negotiating Vacation time

Hey guys, I may be getting a full time job soon and where I'm at now I have a vacation in November (hunter). I would really like to take my trip for a week that Ive had planned. Do IT companies usually allow you to negotiate a week of vacation your first year? Any ways to try and talk about it?

Let them know up front and most of the time it's not a problem. I took a vegas trip my second week at my last job.

It really depends on the organization. Where I work now your first years vacation is available immediately but my last job there was a 90 day waiting before you could take vacation.

A lot of larger companies will have a corporate policy for vacation, but if its a smaller company they may work something out with you.

You might not get paid for it, but you should be able to get the time off if you tell them up front.

+1, let them know during the offer/negotiating stage (NOT IN THE INTERVIEW). Just make sure they know you're keen on the job and that this was already booked and you would prefer not to loose it, just whatever you do don't bring it up in the interview... ;)

It all depends, for the first year:

I got 2 weeks right away at Sprint.

I didn't get any vacation at Northrop Grumman.

Now at Global Crossing I get 4 weeks :)
