in CCNA & CCENT
Take my exam for CCENT tomorrow at 1. Was going to go the one exam option, but just found that it would be too much. I feel I am mostly ready and doing some of the last minute stuff. Used the following resources:
CBT Nuggets
Train Signal
Todd Lammles CCENT Book
Exam Cram (finishing this up)
Will let you know how it goes tomorrow. I did find that it was like riding a bike as I took a bunch of networking courses over a year ago and a lot of it came back.

the_Grinch Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■Thanks for all the encouragement guys, sadly I failed today 717 . I will take my free retest and try again on Monday October 13th. Overall I did badly on everything, but worst on subnetting. I've never be able to do it and I am hoping a little over a week will at least improve where I'm currently at with it. I was happy that I atleast did good on the security portion as that's what my focus has been on in school. So here are the embarrassing results:
Describe the operation of data networks: 54%
Implement a small switched network: 75%
Implement an IP addressing scheme and IP services to meet network requirements: 0% (killer
Implement a small routed network: 68%
Explain and select the ppropriate administrative tasks required for a WLAN: 50%
Identify security threats to a network and describe general methods...: 100%
Implement and verify WAN links: 33%
So as you see I really screwed the pooch! I believe part of it was that first I got lost going to the testing center and thought I wouldn't be on time. Second, I thought I accidentally skipped all the questions! Lastly, I got an error on the machine in the middle of a sim! Luckily they save where you were and when they restarted the machine I was able to continue.
I know I can do better and I don't feel a less then a 100 points will be hard to make up if I can get subnetting down! I vow to past the next time!WIP:

Good try though. you had a lot to overcome and you stayed focused and still broke 700!
Keep positive, this is not an easy. exam This is probably the 1st text book I've read cover to cover in years, watched 100+ hours of video, did practice exams, and I'm still nervous about taking the exam.. go figure!...Check out www.manager-tools.com for some great management training for free! -

You only failed by about 90 points, and that's really not that bad. IMHO, the percentages are rather worthless without including the total number of questions in that category. For example, missing two out of four questions will give you 50% and missing two out of three will give you 33%. There might have just been a limited number and you happened to get a couple that were tough for you.
Anyway, what gives you a problem when it comes to subnetting? Feel free to ask away. We'll make sure you master it before your retake -
Megadeth4168 Member Posts: 2,157I think if you can master subnettingquestions.com you should be fine on your retake.

the_Grinch Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■Personally, I think it is a mental block. I've always hated math and when I look at subnetting I just think math and I get stuck. You guys are right that I just need to keep working at it. The other things that was werid is I only had 40 questions. Anyone had that number before? I was expecting 55 to 60 questions and then saw it was only 40. I will master subnetting if it is the death of me. Again thanks for all the support!WIP:

dynamik Banned Posts: 12,312 ■■■■■■■■■□I think that was all I had. It was lower than I was expecting as well.
You might want to spend a little time memorizing binary-to-decimal values. It's good to know what's going on behind-the-scenes, but there really isn't that much math involved in the actual process. What's the most complex thing you've had to do, basic addition when listing out subnet ranges? Don't let it intimidate you. It sounds like you just need a little practice. -
mikej412 Member Posts: 10,086 ■■■■■■■■■■Call this one your trial run, learn from it, and move on.
You may want to pick up the Odom book.... after seeing what really is involved with subnetting, Todd's method should seem like a walk in the park.
Study, Study, and Study some more. Make sure you're getting lots of hands on practice -- that helps you learn the material and understand it, rather than just trying to memorize stuff.
With the Second Chance, this was only a practice run. Good Luck on your real exam!:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -

I know it's boring but you really need to hammer it in. Don't rush subnetting because it never goes away.-Daniel
