    I have a co-worker that used to work for them. I believe they do firewalls and SSL-VPNs.

    Thanks for the response. Do you know why he left? Did he like working there? It seems like a great company to work for. Who wouldn't like 'Beer Fridays' drunken_smilie.gif

    I worked for a small computer company that had a beer keg in the server room, tap and everything. To bad it was crappy Miller lite :p
    I used to run the internet.

    Well, didn't get the job. I had a phone interview on Friday and did pretty well. It was for a Desktop Support Specialist I position and before the technical questions started he asked why I was applying for this positon if I had my MCSE. I told him because I can 't find that ever elusive first sys. admin position and thought if I could get my foot in the door with a great company I could possibly work my way up. He took that as a legitimate answer (I think) and proceeded to ask me a few technical questions and a few "what would you do in this situation?" I answered them all correctly(the technical ones anyway) and at one point there was a pause and he says, "you might be over qualified for this position" and then proceeded to skip some questions that he says he asks less experienced candidates. The interview lasted a little longer and then we thanked each other for the time and that was that. Today I get an email saying they're going with someone else. I'm not entirely crushed, but a bit confused as to why I was passed over. Do people get passed over for being over qualified? It would have been a great opportunity to work for a great company, oh well, I guess I'll continueon with my own beer fridays, cheers. drunken_smilie.gif

    Sorry to hear about that.

    If you were over qualified you probably would have gotten bored anyway icon_wink.gif

    Good luck on finding that first sys admin job!

    Unlucky man on the job but sounds like you were over qualified.

    I never seen this post when you started it but F5 are a pretty big player in the application delivery, WAN optimization and as some have already mention load balancing products.

    Their flag ship product is the F5 Big IP which can be used as one of the following depending on which license you purchase and we use the Link Controllers for the corporate internet connection;

    * Local Traffic Manager (LTM)
    * Global Traffic Manager (GTM)
    * Link Controller (LC)
    * Application Security Manager (ASM)
    * WebAccelerator (WA)

    http://www.f5.com/products/big-ip/

    They also have an awsome product called the Viprion which is in essence a hot swappable chassis that does SSL compression - you will find these in banks and any large businesses that use ecommerce websites.

    I think these types of technologies will be utilised more and more in the next couple of years to optimize web applications, virtualised desktops etc over WAN links and with more and more companies load balancing redundant internet pipes etc.

    Their main competitors in the optimization space are Riverbed and Cisco WAAS

    Hope this is interesting for somebody icon_smile.gif

    In the past I was passed over for several Desktop Support positions because I was overqualified for them. This was before I even had gotten my MCSE or MCSA. I just happened to know way more about Kerberos and Linux than was expected of a Desktop Support guy so that put me in the overqualified category. Even though I had mentioned that the money was not an issue. So I believe that they just assumed that I would be too bored in such a menial position. Probably the same thing happened to you.
