CCIE Number - Do you keep it if CCIE expires

Just wondering what happens if you get a CCIE number then let it expire. If you take it again say 5 years later would you get the same CCIE number as before or would Cisco assign you a new one?

Once you earn a CCIE # it's yours, it never gets reused for someone else.
