Necessity of retaking CCNA w/Voice or Security emphasis

CrunchyhippoCrunchyhippo Member Posts: 389
I had thought that if one was pursuing a CCSP or CCVP and didn't finish by June, one would have to retake the CCNA with the emphasis in one or the other - depending on which you were pursuing. However, some coworkers told me that as long as one has passed at least one of the tests for the mid-level cert (CCSP/CCVP), it was not necessary to retake the CCNA at that point. I'm still trying to determine something definitive. Does someone know for sure?

It's all laid out on Cisco's site. You can use SND instead of the CCNA security specialization, and you can get by without the CCNA voice specialization until near the end of next June.

Ok, so the guys at work were wrong - I do have to take and pass all four (or five) tests before June 24, or I would have to retake the CCNA, though I've only had it a year. Bummer. I've only passed one test, and now I'm in a time crunch to pass the rest. icon_exclaim.gif

[Addendum] On the Wikipedia site on CCNA, it says this:

The certification is valid for three years; at that time a CCNA holder must either:

    - re-take the CCNA or ICND2 exam, or

    - take and pass an exam for one of the Professional Cisco Career Certifications (e.g., CCNP) or Specialist level certifications (excluding the sales specialist exams), or

    - pass the CCIE written exam.

It would seem, then, that as long as one takes and passes an exam at the CCNP-level, one is safe from having to retake the CCNA with a particular leaning.

Yea, any pro-level exam will renew your CCNA for three years. You'd only have to take the CCNA voice specialization if you didn't finish by June, 24th. Sorry, I thought that's what you were asking about.
