DNS Troubleshooting Tools

Hi guys,
I wonder if you can help on this one. I am currently covering DNS in the 70-293 book and although I'm not completely confused about the DNS troubleshooting tools available, I'd like a bit of confirmation as to exactly when each tool would be used.
The ones I am looking into at the moment are Nslookup, DNSLint and DNScmd. What are the exact differences between each tool and when would one be more appropriately used than another? As far as I can see they all perform pretty much the same function......they query DNS records.
Thanks
