Let's keep the discussion in this one to keep things simple.
You should really focus on getting experience with a technology or the technologies you want to work with. An underlying theme that's developed from posts like yours is: How can you secure something you don't understand? You should focus on getting an entry-level position at a help desk or junior network admin, gain experience, and then transition into security.
As far as certs go, also look at the Security+, SSCP, and CCNA: Security. There are security specializations in the Solaris track as well.

Look on dice.com, monster.com, hotjobs.com, etc.
I'm not sure how to search for jobs that want an InfoSec person who doesn't have any InfoSec experience. InfoSec intern, maybe?
