How much overlap is there (if any) between 290 and 291?

I hope to sit for 290 at the end of December using Microsoft's second shot offer. If I pass, I'm unsure of if I will be already partially prepared to sit for the 291 in February and take full advantage of the additional 25% off with that same Microsoft offer. https://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/offers/secondshot/default.mspx
