To include or omit from resume

I was recently in a strange situation where my previous employer of almost five years basically laid me off but helped me arrange a "transfer" to the company that we outsourced our IT department to. My nebulous job description and the generally chaotic nature of my new job among other things lead me to quit after three weeks. I departed on good terms with the new company and they said that they would give me a good reference and that I could contact them for leads. I'm not worried about someone contacting them, but I'm afraid that it might make my resume needlessly complicated. I may not even stay in IT, in which case it would be irrelevant. Any opinions? Thanks.
