GNS3 issue

Not that it's much help, but I have probably seen every other kind of error in Dynamips, except this one. Maybe a bug? Try using a different IOS image if you have one, and see if you get the same thing. Sorry I can't be more of a help.

Nah, it's ok - was just wondering if anyone else has seen it.

Interestingly it happens on both my desktop and laptops.

I'll try some different router altogether and report back.

Are you using GNS3?
Reading your post, I do not recall ever using the reload command.

I use GNS3, and if I need to reboot the router, I just stop the router from the toolbar, and restart it, never have had an issues.

For giggles, booted up a router and typed reload and saw what you saw.

Well, as I've used proper "real" equipment, reload is one I've used a lot.

Reload basically soft resets the equipment.

If, in GNS, I am "supposed" to shut down and start it manually, then I'll just that from now on.

Not sure if that is the way you are supposed to do it in GNS3, but that is the way I have always done it....

I am familar with the reload command as I have a total of 13 routers currently in my home lab.

Reload is supported in the IOS...not Dynagen though. I think you guys are talking about two different things. From Dynagen, you have to stop /R1, then start /R1, and if console'd into the router, you use reload..so in a way, it is supported in dynamips, just not from the dynagen console.

You can really do whatever suits you I suppose.

No. We're talking about the same thing. Dynamips doesn't support the reload command inside IOS. The router hardware emulation doesn't get reset properly when you reload and IOS doesn't like that. The solution is to stop and start it from Dynamips itself which is basically "power" cycling the router.

Looks like my n00bishness has been proved with GNS.

Not really. I only knew about this because I happened to be reading the FAQ for dynamips the other day

GNS doesn't seem to mention this at all.

Probably not even in his case but lusting after a CRS-1 might be a little more expensive than the usual things we're after
