hey i'm trying to get a version of VMware to run on my vista laptop to install server 2003..anyone has suggestions to which free one i can use?? and where to download?
Actually, you might want to check out VirtualBox as well: http://www.virtualbox.org/ I'd probably go with that if I was you (and you don't need 64-bit guests).
i tried the virtual pc and vmware..i don't understand how to install the server image in vmware and virtual pc installed but i can't figure out how to get past the ctrl-alt-delete logon..maybe i need to install additional tools or something..so now i'm trying the virtualbox

64-bit guests work just fine under VirtualBox now.
Oh yea, look at that. Version 2 in early September. They still call it an x86 virtualization package in the first paragraph; I just assumed nothing changed. Thanks for the update.

Virtual PC does what it says on the tin .. its just 32 MB and works great ...
It has one downside though : You can get a 64 Bit version but it still doesn't run 64 Bit guests.
Edit: Too slow

In vmware it is CTRL-ALT-INS and Virtual PC it is right-ALTGR and DELETE once you clicked into the console window.
