installing xp on same disk

I have vista i need to install XP on same pc before I install should I mark the second partion as active before install xp ?

The installer should take care of everything like that. After you install XP, you'll have to load up the Vista disc and have it fix the boot menu since it will have been overwritten by XP's older and incompatible menu. You can try to have it do this automatically by going into repair and selecting "fix problems that prevent my computer from starting" (or something like that). If that doesn't work, or you just want to do it manually, choose the command prompt instead and type bootrec /fixboot.
