ip classless command confusion
crisb20
O.K. I am a little confused about this ip classless command and the ICND2 book. One of the troubleshooting steps on page 281 states: "If no matching route is found, and the route is a default route, confirm that it will be used based on the setting for the ip classless / no ip classless command." I was under the impression that classless and classful routing protocols do not have an on off switch for classless or classful routing? So far in my ccna studies there has been nothing that I felt was over my head, but this classless /classful routing is confusing for me. If anyone could shed some light on this or provide a link to an article somewhere along the lines of classful routing for dummies, that would be great!

Try this

This refers to when a router will drop the packets rather than using the default route, it's not referring to whether classful or classless routing in 'enabled' but more the rules that apply to known subnets within a major network and whether the default route will be used.
