It looks like google is trying to get into the networking business now....maybe a GCNA in the future for certifications??

Wow, that's incredible. I can't wait to see what happens!

So someone inside of Cisco is saying something that'll hurt Juniper?

I'm marking this off as FUD until I see something more concrete than, "multiple sources." Google is a software company. This doesn't make any sense to me.

Where in the world would Google plan to take something like this?

Let me guess... they will develop a "free" router, you only have to sign away your soul to them and give them permission to index each and every packet passing through your network.

I think Google is a great search engine, but I often wish they were nothing more than a search engine.

I see this as something they may end up doing

Those stories just reference the original one!

And the Register is just awful in general.

It would be for their own use. They're not going to start marketing their own hardware.

They're already doing custom datacenters, servers and allegedly their own network switches.

Ya I don't buy it. The blog acts like google is just going to throw all their routers in the garbage tomorrow, and put in their own.

I know google is rich, but do you have any idea the kind of R&D that would require? Not to mention a total reorganization of their network? I just don't see it.

Also, I am having trouble backing up the fact that google is Juniper's largest customer. I always thought a service provider(s) network would be.

I have a feeling there was a comment somewhere that has been blown out of proportion.

I doubt they'll just replace everything but this might be for a specialised application. Maybe they want a router with certain features and interfaces that they can throw into their datacenter-in-a-shipping-container blocks.

I don't think it is too far fetched that they're considering doing their own hardware. They've already invested or bought out various companies that do hardware.

Wow. This is on Slashdot now. I'm not saying it's not possible, but it's only a rumor with absolutely nothing backing it up. Someone says they have multiple anonymous sources confirming something and everyone decides to run with it? Oh well, it's on the internet, so I guess it must be true...

I wonder if they are going to market their hardware ???? it might be kinda hard with big dawgs like cisco juniper and ect...

I can't see the need to spend THAT much money in developing a router for their own use. Maybe it more along the lines of adding functionality to something existing.

I just hate how the article made it sound like juniper would go under as a result of this.

Maybe it is a software based router like Quagga that can be run on top of Linux. Unfortunatly, it would be terrible for ISP use. Guess we'll watch and find out.
