I was answering the question of what are the benefits of frame relay over a ppp link. I told them the cost savings it provided by allowing for shared bandwidth and inverse multiplexing. along with the ability to put multiple virtual circuits on 1 physical medium.
Then i got thinking later...since multiplexing is done at layer 1, why is this really a big deal with frame-relay. couldn't oversupscription also be done with a PPP connection as well? you just wouldn't have the opportunity to burst because your line would be fixed?
