Do the channels have any effect upon the max data transfer rate?
I've noticed that when I used channel 11 that I get the best transfer rates. I've also discovered that all of the other wireless routers that I can detect are also using channel 11.
I've changed the channel to 1 in order to see if I'd get in increase in performance but instead experienced a major drop in the data transfer rate.
Can anyone explain this?

I think some routers need channel six which combines two channels for maximum speed like for 108mbps, I was told by Belkin's tech support that best channels that work for them are 1/6/11....experiment with the channels and see what works for you since it depends what conditions you got going around you.
