Is it possible to use a wireless router as a wi-fi adapter, this is the setup, wireless router downstairs connected to BB, wireless router upstairs connected to PC

If this would work, would I need to configure anything

Yes. You can use WDS or client bridge mode to do what you want. WDS will allow you to plug multiple devices into the router upstairs.
