Anyone know what a GBIC is for? elaborate on what it does , it's purpose?

hypnotoad Banned Posts: 915A GBIC basically allows different types of media to be used in a port. Swap them in or out depending on what kind of media goes on that port -- so you have a switch with 16 GBIC slots, you connect either copper or some variety of fiber to the port...the GBIC is the middleman.

The fiber patch cords would plug into the appropriate GBIC module (or SFP module depending on how new the equipment is).CCNP:Collaboration, CCNP:R&S, CCNA:S, CCNA:V, CCNA, CCENT
