Gone through two of these now and still can't get putty ( terminal emulator ) to connect. The xp machine can see the usb device and seems to install it fine. When I try to use putty on that com port I get nothing.

I hear these things are very tempremental so what should I be looking at to get it working ?

Are you sure you're using the right settings for the device you're connecting to?

As a side note here, if you plan on using a USB to RS-232 adapter in linux, make sure you have enabled support (or the module) for it in the kernel. Secondly you will need to make sure that your users are in the correct group.

In my case I have a Prolific RS-232 adapter and the group was uucp. If the user is not in this group then they cannot access the ttyUSB port.
