This has been driving me nuts and while i would guess the answer is somewhere obvious, i've spent too much time looking with no success. I had wondered before starting to look at this test (after a long layoff between finishing the 290, 270, vista tests) and now after reading the self-paced book i still can't figure out how to get e.g. 'www.jay.local' and 'jay.local' to resolve to the same thing. I have:
jay.local. NS server = server01.jay.local
server01 A 192.168.55.1
server02 A 192.168.55.2
www CNAME server02.jay.local
Using 'www.jay.local' works fine, but if i try to just enter 'jay.local' it doesn't resolve. I'm not sure if this is something necessary for the test but i've been trying to figure out how its supposed to work for a while now.

undomiel Member Posts: 2,818Create a CNAME record with a blank name and point it to server02. Then modify the www CNAME to point to the previously created CNAME. That way they'll both respond to the same server, and if you ever modify it you only have to modify the original CNAME.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/
