I simply enable telnet now when i try to log in remotely it prompts for a username:

I never configured it for username/password authentication

I simply configured telnet access.

What can be done? Or what has happened?

Did you set either of these:

aaa new-model
login authentication local
username xxx....

or set any other AAA? Post your config and we can tell you which lines need to go.

You should able to just leave the username blank, but yes, please post the config.

You need to set a password when using telnet to connect.
