netstat and netbios

Say, does anyone know if the name displayed in netstat -a is a netbios or a hosts name? For example, I get lines like:
TCP aragorn:3229 whiteserver:netbios-ssn ESTABLISHED
... where my Win 2000 workstation aragorn is looking at a file on my Win 2000 test server whiteserver. Are aragorn and whiteserver NetBIOS names or Windows DNS names?
I know they're NetBIOS names because I'm not running a DNS server here or a domain; I'm running in a workgroup. But if I saw that line on an exam, could I tell from it how the name is resolved?
TIA.
